More than 250 online courses give global students access to a UK higher education, as Study UK campaign gets third run

The Study UK campaign has once again joined forces with social learning platform FutureLearn to bring the UK higher education experience to learners worldwide.

From Monday 1 October 2018, students will be able to access more than 250 massive open online courses (MOOCs) from 35 UK universities. The campaign – ‘Study UK: Learn online with a UK university’ — is designed to showcase the diversity of a UK higher education and covers a wide range of courses, from: ‘The Future of Farming’, to ‘Discovering Dentistry’; ‘Smart Cities’, to ‘Antiquities Trafficking and Art Crime’.

Anyone can join and take part, and learners can complete as many courses as they wish. For anyone in one of the 145 non-OECD countries, there is the offer of a free FutureLearn upgrade on these courses until Wednesday 16 January 2019. Learners will need to complete at least five steps on one course to receive a digital certificate.

The ‘Study UK: Learn online with a UK university’ campaign was first launched in 2017 and is now on its third run. It has enabled more than 220,000 learners from 130 countries to gain free Certificates of Achievement from FutureLearn’s UK university partners over the past two years.

Fiona Samson, Director of the Study UK campaign, said: “The campaign gives students from all corners of the globe the opportunity to see for themselves the type of courses available at UK institutions. To be able to go on to FutureLearn’s online learning platform and choose from more than 250 courses from one of 35 participating institutions demonstrates the breadth of the UK higher education system. The great thing about this campaign is that all students with an internet connection can get a taste for what UK universities have to offer and I strongly encourage them to take full advantage of this great opportunity.”

Simon Nelson, Chief Executive at FutureLearn, said: “We were delighted with the success of the previous runs of the campaign and are thrilled to be able to continue to collaborate with the British Council. The Study UK initiative highlights exactly what FutureLearn is about: helping everyone fulfil their potential in a changing world by transforming access to education. The quality of education in the UK is renowned worldwide, so to be able to extend this to learners overseas is something we’re very proud to be a part of.”
