Dr Katherine Weber to discuss how edtech can help teachers develop their own professional skills at InnovateEdTech

We’re delighted to announce that Dr Katherine Weber, partnership manager at FutureLearn, will be speaking at the InnovateEdTech Conference at Loughborough University’s East London campus on 11th November, and we also have a special discount code for our learners – just use FL20 to get a 20% discount on your ticket.

Katherine will be running an open session in which she’ll look at how edtech isn’t just about courses, apps and other tools for the student, but how online courses can enable cross-disciplinary conversations, increase the diversity of voices, and allow teachers to personalise their training.

Delegates attending the session will come away with an understanding of the theory and pedagogy behind social learning online, real-life examples of teacher training courses, and the benefits for teacher CPD.

Innovate EdTech is a one-day event made up of engaging and impactful talks and workshops, mixed in with opportunities to try things out, connect with people from all over the education space, make new friends, share experiences and be inspired.

The theme for this year, The Rise of Learner Experience, looks at the importance of a learner-centred approach to the design and use of technology in education and how technology can be used to solve real problems for learners. In particular there will be a focus on the following five areas:

  • Personalisation and differentiation – including a focus on different special educational needs
  • Interaction – from learner to teacher and between learners
  • Technology for teachers – professional development and helping teachers better serve their learners
  • Learner engagement – delight, fun and motivation
  • Co-creation – bringing teacher and learner voices into EdTech product development

The iEdTech team want to explore the impact that we can all create when we share ideas on how to put the learner at the centre of the decisions we make about the use of technology in education.

The event will take place in the state-of-the-art Loughborough University London campus in Here East, East London, a venue perfect for collaboration and interaction. Plus there will be games and activities, music, delicious food and drinks, an evening party and plenty of fun times.
