Welcoming one million people to FutureLearn

Our one millionth learner has joined FutureLearn! Here, we celebrate this milestone and say a big thank you to everyone who’s been part of our journey so far.

Thanks to our 1 million learners

One million people have now joined FutureLearn. These people come from more than 190 countries and territories around the world. Between them, they’ve made 2.2 million course sign ups.

In fact, we currently have over 220 course runs online from 44 partners around the world.

Alongside this rapid growth, we’re pleased to say that the positive figures that we’ve reported in the past still hold true today:

  • 23% of people who start a FutureLearn course complete the majority of steps and all of the assessments. We’re delighted that so many people are motivated to engage with the majority of their course.
  • 39% of our learners are social – they make comments and engage in conversations, learning from each other and feeling part of a supportive, global community.
  • And 60% of FutureLearners are female, bucking the male-dominated trend of many early MOOC (massive open online course) platforms.

We’re extremely proud to have reached this milestone, but we couldn’t have done it without you. So a big thank you goes to all of our learners, who every day tell their friends and family about FutureLearn; and to our partners, who create the compelling courses that have drawn one million people in. Thank you!

We want to hear from you. Has FutureLearn changed your life? Have you found a new friend or got a new job thanks to one of our courses? Email your story to yourstories@futurelearn.com. Or find out more about this milestone at Class Central.
