Over 100,000 learners from around the world have joined FutureLearn courses that start today, making it our busiest day ever.

More than 70,000 of them will have the opportunity to improve their language skills through the British Council’s ‘Exploring English: Language and Culture’ – our most popular course to date and the biggest class the British Council has welcomed in its 80 year history of teaching English.

Other learners will join ‘Irish Lives in War and Revolution’ – Trinity College Dublin’s first ever MOOC. Two health-related courses will also begin from the UK’s University of Bath and Australia’s Monash University.

Today’s milestone follows a busy summer at FutureLearn. We recently passed 1 million course signups and on Thursday, our 500,000th learner joined FutureLearn.

So, as students go back to school this week – in the northern hemisphere, at least – it feels very much like the start of a ‘new term’ for us. With many more courses starting soon, plus our first birthday celebrations around the corner, it will undoubtedly be an exciting one.
